Planned Facilities
While the idea of having a completely accessible, community based, membership gym seems to be a good idea, it only encompasses the "E" of the RECC Center’s logo. After many meetings and brainstorming sessions, The RECCing Crew devised a plan to incorporate all the aspects of what the RECC Center should stand for and provide to its members. In addition to the accessible gymnasium facilities, the proposed services and features have been adopted into the business model. They are:
- Kitchen to teach cooking and life skills for greater independence.
- Community room for meetings, functions and events. Wireless high-speed Internet hookups, TTY/telecoil, Braille and interpreters.
- Dining room where members can join together for meals they prepared.
- Craft room to promote creativity and imagination. This room will have clay sculpting, ceramics, painting, knitting, crochet and crafts.
- Massage Therapy will allow members to unwind and relax after their rigorous workout.
- Exercise Rooms a full service gym with both passive exercise and weight machines.
- Music Room where members can play, or learn to play musical instruments. We are also planning to form a community choir.
- On-site daycare This service will allow our members to “RECC”, without worrying about the safety and security of their children. We will also provide tutoring and homework help as well.
- Coffee Shop with a variety of coffees, teas, specialty beverages and snacks.
- Hair Salon to help our members look as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside, also providing manicures, pedicures and facials.
- An Endless pool simulates swimming for those who cannot but is for everyone.
- Meditation room a sound proofed room featuring aromatherapy and soothing music to unwind by.
- Neighborhood watch we will be partnering with our area neighborhood watch to help provide a safe environment for our members.
- Greenhouse to teach members how to grow fruits, vegetables and flowers, to use in the kitchen, or to sell and reduce operating costs.
- Community Recycling Center which will allow the members to “think green”, promoting a healthy environment and subsidizing a portion of the centers operating costs, by cashing in the items that have been recycled.
- Fully accessible equipment with wireless hi speed internet, touch screen and voice recognition software, closed captioning and hearing impaired TTY/telecoil and Braille technology.
Our ultimate goal is to partner with local medical centers, and colleges, allowing residents and interns to utilize our facility to perform on-the-job training while they complete their education. This will allow our members to receive top quality care, under physician direction, without the involvement of the insurance companies. We would also like to include local beauty, massage, culinary, music, dancing, computer, and trade schools, the opportunity to allow their students to staff study specific areas of our center, or to provide on-site clinics. We also welcome the opportunity to partner with places like the YMCA, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, Christian Organizations, Booker T Washington, Martin Luther King Jr. center and the International Institute.
There is much more to be said of our RECC Center. We invite you to contact us if there are any questions, concerns or if you would like to partner, sponsor or donate.
