A lot of people like to experiment with highlights in their hair. Highlights (and lowlights!) are one of the best ways to add a splash of color and pizzaz to any look, and can dramatically alter your hairstyle with just a little bit of effort.
To take that look further, however, you may want to try a two-toned hair color. The two-toned look is more dramatic and uses both colors to complement each other. The classic two-toned look is where the top layer of hair around the crown is dyed a lighter color than the base underneath it. However, you are by no means limited to one style when playing with two major colors. One great example of this is the ombre look where the tips and bottom part of the hair is dyed a lighter color to better offset the darker crown.
And of course, if you decide the two-toned look is not for you, you can always go back to just using highlights. Just keep experimenting until you find something you like!
